Summary Funding Statements

The Trustee of the GPS Pension Scheme (the Scheme) is required by law to provide a Summary Funding Statement of the Scheme for members. This is a standard requirement for all pension schemes. This statement has been sent to help you to better understand your pension. We will send you a statement like this each year and we would encourage you to read it as it contains information on the financial security of your benefits.

In our last statement to you in November 2008, we mentioned the impact of the volatile investment markets on the assets of the Scheme. Uncertainty still remains in the markets and we have and will continue to consult with professional advisers for help and advice on the best strategy to adopt over the long term. As Trustees it is our duty to ensure all members’ benefits are secure as far as possible in the long term and a key part of this is the long term financial support of the Scheme's Employers. We will continue to monitor the funding position of the Scheme in conjunction with the Scheme Actuary.
